LISD’s Destination Imagination Coordinator, Alexis Gavina shares that over the weekend ten teams from Levelland ISD competed in the Northwest Plains Regional Destination Imagination Tournament. Destination Imagination is an international program that offers students the opportunity to compete in hands-on STEAM challenges that develop critical 21st-century skills, including creative problem-solving and resilience. These challenges incorporate skits and acting and above all teamwork! Congratulations to all who participated in this program. We are proud that four of our DI Teams will be moving on to the Lone Star State competition. Mrs. Gavina says, “Thank you to the administration that supports this program for all of our DI Lobos: from LABC to High School! Lobos Do DI!” The teams were as follows:
Representing LHS: A.T.F. (At the Function) competed in Improv coached by Sandy Billington (and placed 2nd) and DI-nosauros competed in Engineering coached by Lorena Sanchez (and placed 1st and will advance to the Lone Star State Finals).
Representing LMS: TheSparklyCuteMermaidsthatareNinjas competed in Technical Challenge, coached by Olivia Magee (won High IC, placed 3rd and earned the Bonus Bid to advance to the Lone Star State Finals), The Fuzzy Dinosaurs competed in Fine Arts coached by Alison Dawn (won High IC, placed 2nd, and moving on to the Lone Star State finals), and LMS Dinosaurs competed in Fine Arts and were coached by Brian Luna (placed 7th).
Representing Capitol: The Marshmallow Disasters (won High IC, placed 1st and will advance to the Lone Star State Finals) and the NBA Disasters (placed third) both competed in Improv and coached by Barbara Utley and Pam Alexander.
Representing South: The Super Bananas competed in Fine Arts, coached by Kris Stecklein and Brittany Richards (and placed 5th), and the Pink Panthers competed in Rising Stars and coached by Shari Straley (medaled).
Representing Levelland ABC: The Blue Jumping Cheetahs competed in Rising Stars and coached by Melissa Cantu (medaled).
