Connecticut PenPals!

Mrs. Barbara Utley's 3rd grade Capitol GT students participated in a U.S. Geography Mystery Meeting through Region 17ESC. While engaged in this activity, students learned about the geography of the United States, surrounding countries, and bodies of water. This lesson also helped develop critical thinking skills, communication skills, map skills, and problem-solving skills as students worked together to ask geographical questions to another team of students in order to guess their state. Students prepared a script to teach the other team all about Texas, Levelland and Capitol Elementary. Their Mystery Meeting was with a group from New Canaan, Connecticut. They learned that Connecticut is where the Fundamental Orders were written, that it is the birthplace to Mark Twain, and that the first dinosaur tracks to be discovered in America were discovered there in 1818 and can be viewed at the Yale Peabody Museum. Mrs. Utley and these GT students are excited to continue to learn from their new penpals!
