LIFE Grants Awarded!

Every year, our LIFE Foundation comes through for LISD educators. This year LIFE awarded fourteen LISD teachers with grants totaling $5,000.63. LIFE donates money to LISD teachers to make their out-of-the-box ideas come to fruition. Three teachers and Principal, Mrs. Howard at ABC received grants. Tammy Branch will receive a LEGO Wall for her classroom so that students can engage themselves in spatial skills and engineering. Victoria Jones will receive portable lab desks, while Chrystal Miller will get new flexible seating for her classroom. Principal, Mrs. Howard will obtain a water table to help children with their fine & gross motor skills. Two Capitol educators received LIFE grants. Music teacher Susan Draper will purchase a tabletop stereo system with funding to enhance her music classroom and performances. PE teacher Kristy Sanders will get new PE equipment to teach students to be physically active. LMS Dyslexia Specialist Annie Davis will purchase the Rite Flight Program for all LISD Dyslexia Specialists (Melody Turner, Mandi Campbell & Jeanne Smith) to offer an alternative education program on our campuses. LIS educators receiving LIFE grants are Clara Sanders and Russell Hill. Mrs. Sanders asked for the LEGO Spike Prime Set for her Robotics students, making it easier for them to code their robots for competitions. Mr. Hill is sponsoring a new LIS Student written Newsletter, and he will buy cameras to teach the photography portion of the process. At South Elementary, Jessica Mortimer and Latova Ewings are building a new outdoor learning center and were awarded LIFE money to purchase a greenhouse and picnic tables, enabling students to learn botany! We thank LIFE for helping to fill our classrooms with STEAM activities and helping our students have 21st-Century innovative minds of tomorrow... while having fun! LIFE operates solely on donations and fundraisers. If you would like to help out students and teachers, you can make a LIFE donation at City Bank or Hockley County School Employees Credit Union. Thank you to Lillian Northcutt for bringing the cheerleaders, to Mr. John Barry for bringing the drumline, to Superintendent McCutchen, and to the LIFE Board for helping to make these grants a "big deal."
