Zeth Lopez Attending Transition Academy at TTU

The Levelland ISD Special Ed Department & SPECO congratulate Zeth Lopez on his acceptance to the Burkhart Center Transition Academy through Texas Tech University. Zeth is the first student from Levelland ISD to be accepted to this competitive program. The application process is rigorous and consists of the application, in-person panel interview, and 3-day on-site assessment. The program works to meet the needs of young adults ages 18-30 who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and who aspire to be competitively employed. It is an 18-month program that focuses on improving skills in employment, life, and community through a modified Texas Tech University academic calendar. Zeth has been a student at Levelland ISD since he was three years old until his recent graduation in May. In high school, Zeth participated in activities through the Levelland Opportunity Center, such as job shadowing, career day, work-based learning, and agency connections. Zeth connected with Texas Workforce/Vocational Rehabilitation which will be assisting with the tuition for the 18-month program. Zeth’s family has been actively involved in his Autism journey throughout his life. They have participated in the annual Autism Walk held by the Burkhart Center since Zeth was very young. With the help of all the pieces in Zeth’s life (family, school, and agency connections), he is on the right path to success! He also works at United here in Levelland, so when you see him, give him a high five! Zeth, congratulations on your accomplishment! We are all proud of you!
